California Rescue and Paramedic Association
Incorporated in 1982, The CRPA is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) membership association that represents the professional interests of prehospital care professionals in California. Our formal objectives are to work toward improving the quality of emergency medical services in the State of California including, but not limited to, the following:
- to develop and maintain standards in education and ethics to providers of
pre-hospital emergency medical care,
- to research, develop and promote statewide standards and criteria for emergency
medical services, including training equipment, and to communicate same through
public education and information programs,
- to provide for the assembling of the membership to discuss matters and conduct
business pertinent to the association, and
- to promote public education and training in CPR and other aspects of emergency
medical care.
Through the CRPA, your prehospital care provider voice is heard at the state level through a seat at the EMS Commission. This commission oversees the state EMS Authority and is involved with key issues such as scope of practice, licensure and discipline. The CRPA is the sole organization that voices the opinion of the field EMS provider on the commission.
As a member, you will receive a quarterly electronic newsletter detailing the regulatory and legislative issues involving EMS. As a professional, you should be aware of the issues that influence your ability to practice prehospital medicine. As the Association grows, we will establish committee structures that will permit members to become as involved as much as they wish. Most communications will be conducted electronically, first through e-mail, then through a web site and eventually through an office.
We are currently conducting an active membership drive. An individual who is certified as EMT-1, EMT-II, paramedic, or MICN is eligible and encouraged to join as an active member with voting privileges. Other interested parties may join as associate or corporate members. You can join the CRPA at an initial, very low annual dues fee of $20 ($10 if an EMS student). As we grow, we will survey the membership to determine additional specific services and benefits.
The San Francisco Paramedic Association is donating services and resources to help re-establish the CRPA as the state-level EMS Association. The CRPA intends to be self-sufficient and independent within 18 – 24 months.
California has been a leader in the development of modern day EMS. It is time to begin another chapter in its history. We look forward to your involvement. Join us today!
